Getting ready to transport and store your things!

Whether you’re storing items for a few days or several years, packing with care is extremely important;

  • You need your belongings to be safe and delivered in proper condition. Excellent quality storage boxes offer better protection from damage. We also advice that you try to full each box as much as possible because partially full boxes are more likely to tip or collapse.

  • To make the boxes easier to lift, choose smaller boxes for heavy items such as books and plates, and use larger boxes for lighter items such as bedding or curtains. For boxes containing breakable items don’t forget to write ‘FRAGILE’ or ‘THIS WAY UP’ on them.

  • Protect fragile items with bubble wrap or acid free tissue paper. Wrap delicate belongings with the bubbles facing inwards for added protection. Bubble wrap can also aid in protecting items such as table legs. Layers or shrink, corrugated cardboard or tissue paper also protects varnished furniture against scratches.

  • Things such as mirrors and pictures should be protected using bubble wrap and once again should be marked at ‘FRAGILE’ to ensure they don’t get broken, larger ones should be stacked on their end for extra protection.

  • We strongly advise against using bin bags. They are prone to ripping, they easily squashed and have a lack of ventilation, which can cause mildew to build up on fabrics.

  • Think to yourself if anything can be broken down into smaller parts for example bed frames can usually be disassembled, making them easier to store. By breaking things down, it allows you more space in your unit for other items that need storing.

  • Things such as mirrors and pictures should be protected using bubble wrap and once again should be marked at ‘FRAGILE’ to ensure they don’t get broken, larger ones should be stacked on their end for extra protection.

  • Take care to clean all garden equipment before storing it. Ensuring that all your equipment is clean means there won’t be any mud or any unwanted earth/soil in your storage unit, meaning all items will be kept clean and fresh.

  • Please ensure that all refrigerators or freezers are fully defrosted and cleaned before storing and use shrink wrap to keep fridge and freezers doors closed in transit if not the warm air will get trapped in the refrigerator or freezer causing it to become full of bacteria and mould.

  • If you are storing clothing for a long time then wardrobe boxes would be very handy for you to use. Wardrobe boxes allow you to hang your clothes in storage, keeping them in shape and giving them room to breathe. You could even consider using a vacuum storage system that sucks air out of the specially designed bags-this will help you fit more clothes into your space.
